Veteran's Day 2017

This is what I posted yesterday on social media:

Since Facebook is posting pictures of veterans in their lives and I posted one of my grandfather earlier, here is a flashback to when I first bought my DSLR camera for a photography class. Patrick (the one who thought I was Meghan for the longest time and still has no idea who I am), who is a veteran of Iraqi Freedom; Christina, and I braved the cold February day for photos. I had a photography project and needed some models. You can still see that I was still learning how to use the DSLR, but I am thankful that both Christina Gates and Patrick were champs. February 2013

I don't talk to Patrick anymore. He could never remember my name - he always called me Meghan. I don't know if the M name stuck because my middle name is Marie, but for the two years that we were acquaintances he could never remember my name.

While I don't celebrate Christmas, I send out holiday cards and newsletters each year. I sent him a card and a newsletter; he didn't respond until October. He started out the letter as "Dear Jessica [my last name]." It almost sounded like he didn't even know who he was writing to. I saw him working at Starbucks the other week and I didn't say anything, I wanted to see if he acknowledged me. He didn't, he didn't know who I was. I could be mad, but I am not. I might be weird, but I try to be gentle with people. I know PTSD causes memory issues and it might be a case of that. It might not be. I know he is struggling, which I know a lot of veterans struggle after a war. I only hope the best for him.

I only hope for the best for all of the veterans from the US and abroad - they fight for our freedoms and I always extend kindness. I am thankful for all that they do.
