Upper Merion Township Library's Diwali Celebration | October 23, 2017

Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights and New Year, fell on October 19 this year. Diwali is a five-day celebration with diya lamps, games, food, friends and family. This year the Upper Merion Township Library decided to celebrate Diwali on the evening of October 23, 2017.

I read a Diwali story and sang festive songs. I also helped young children with their crafts of making diya lamps out of old CDs. We glued a LED candle in the middle and had fun decorating the rest of the CD with stickers.

A photographer from the Township was present. She took this photo and I copied it from her. Credit goes to Upper Merion Township.

After I read the stories, I decided to walk around the different displays. I learned a lot about Diwali and other Indian customs. I even tried delicious food.

Now it's time to dance! I loved seeing the different dances, especially the dancers of different ages. I would love to learn how to dance like this.

Diwali Night was amazing and it’s great the library has different cultural events to teach our community.
