Rest Easy, Fats Domino

I was shocked to hear the breaking news on NPR during 1A this morning - Fats Domino died at the age of 89. I gasped while I was at work (since it was 11:30 AM) because I was shocked to hear the news! I was very sad to hear about his passing, just like I was very sad to hear of Tom Petty's passing on October 2nd.

In 7th and 8th grades, I listened to Fats Domino, Tom Petty, Linkin Park, Soundgarden and a whole bunch of other groups. This was the age I started to really get into music. It seems like many of the artists I loved in my youth have died this year. 😢😢😢

Dad had a bunch of oldies on CDs and Fats Domino was a staple of those CDs. One of his co-workers used to be a DJ on the side and gave dad the CDs. I loved listening to the Motown and Doo Wop hits and I especially loved "Blueberry Hill" and "Ain't That a Shame".

What an amazing life! I know he is rocking in heaven with everyone else. :)

  1. Hi, Jessica Marie!

On this otherwise sad day it makes me happy to know that someone your age not only knew about Fats Domino but listened to and loved his music. Some of my earliest childhood memories are of playing the Fats 45s that my parents and big brother owned. My favorite Fats single back then was "I'm Walkin'", a song nicely covered by Ricky Nelson. As fate would have it, Rick died young while Fats lived to a ripe old age. Fats was a R&B pioneer, a legend. He will be missed but his music will keep playing forever.

Thanks for posting about Fats, dear friend JM, and enjoy the rest of your week!

    1. Hi Shady,

I'm still in shock. I will be playing his songs on my iPod this morning in homage to Fats Domino.

Have a great day, dear friend.
