Philadelphia Museum of Art | Art After 5: Down the Shore | Beginning of Birthday Weekend

Every last Friday of the month, the Philadelphia Museum of Art hosts something called Final Fridays. This past Friday's theme was "Down the Shore." I had to go because I love going to the beach, I wanted to see the performances, and see what the crafts were. I wanted to make a craft that I could take to Atlantic City; I'm traveling to Atlantic City for the day on Friday, July 7.

I wasn't disappointed. I couldn't stay for the whole thing and I missed the rock band that was the final act. I had a spinach dip for dinner while I listened to a DJ. I enjoyed listening to the DJ as I ate.

Fortunately, by the time I wanted to make a shirt (the craft for the evening), the DJ was playing. The shirts, which I later found out there were also tote bags and scarves, were screen printed and that is why it took a while. I waited in line for 40 minutes.

By the time it was time to make my craft, I decided on a scarf. I handed my camera to someone in back of me and she took my pictures. I can't wait to wear this scarf to Atlantic City!

On the Rocky Stairs, there was mini golf and ice cream. "Under the Boardwalk" was playing and it brought back the wonderful memories of spending my birthday week down in Cape May when I was a little girl. Mom-mom's birthday was July 2nd and mom's family rented the house for our birthdays. From 1994-1996 Mom-mom and I celebrated our birthdays together. She died on December 31, 1996.

It was a great way to kick off my birthday weekend. Tomorrow morning I will post some older pictures from birthdays past.

  1. Hi, Jessica Marie!

I can tell you are excited that your birthday week has rolled around. It looks like you had fun making a scarf and listening to "Under The Boardwalk" and other beach music nuggets. I hope you have a great time in Atlantic City. It has been decades since I was there. From the 50s through the 80s, I visited the Maryland, Delaware and Jersey beach towns practically every year - Ocean City-MD, Rehoboth Beach, Lewes, Cape May, Ocean City-NJ, Wildwood, Barnegat Light, Atlantic City, Point Pleasant and Asbury Park. I had some great times and I hope you do, too.

Stay safe and enjoy your birthday week ahead, dear friend JM!

This Art After 5 was definitely a perfect kick off to birthday week. Later I'll post about my birthday.
