Science Matter March Villanelle / NaPoWriMo Day #22

In honour of Earth Day yesterday, I witnessed the March for Science in Philadelphia. I was heading down to South Street to sell my CDs and before I went, I wanted to get some pictures. First, here is the poem:

Do not settle for alternative facts and fear,
only truth should be the guiding light.
Gather your signs and chants, march forward here.

The loss of our environment brings us to tears,
that the commander in chief rather have blight--
do not settle for alternative facts and fear!

"Screw Trump," the veteran's voice rings near,
scantily clad women dressed in flowers, how bright;
gather your signs and chants, march forward here.

Scientists and park rangers join hands and jeer;
a sad day when there are protest for science's rights,
do not settle for alternative facts and fear.

And me, I take pictures of the march, I'm the seer,
recording the learned and ignorant, hand in hand in white.
Do not settle for alternative facts and fear,
gather your signs and chants, march forward here!

  1. Good for you, Jessica Marie!

    Thank you for writing a poem for Earth Day and for posting pictures of the March for Science in Philly. The message is clear, important and urgent. Do not settle for alternative facts and fear. Alternative facts = lies. Science is greater than alternative facts, hate and fear.

    Thank you again, dear friend JM, and have a wonderful week!
