In Memory of Olivia c. 1995 to April 18, 2012

Today marks five years since my dear cat Olivia has passed over the rainbow bridge to paradise. I thought today's prompt was fitting for Olivia's memory.

And now for our (optional) prompt. Today, I challenge you to write a nocturne. In music, a nocturne is a composition meant to be played at night, usually for piano, and with a tender and melancholy sort of sound. Your nocturne should aim to translate this sensibility into poetic form! Need more inspiration? Why not listen to one of history’s most famous nocturnes, Chopin’s Op. 9 No. 2?

Olivia's Nocturne

Night drapes the limp body,
her spirit reaching towards the moon;
tears cleanse the soul,
twinkling like the stars that greet her
past the clouds, rainbow waits:
life begins at night,
free to roam among the stars
with both Woos, grandparents, now Nan,
the others that have taken the journey
among the moon and stars
and a paradise that greets them.

  1. Hi, Jessica Marie!

    This poem is beautifully written and it serves as a sweet and touching tribute to your beloved pet Olivia who left you five years ago. Olivia went to Rainbow Bridge a year before my dog Toto. I hope they met up with each other there and became pals. I especially like the picture of your dad scratching Olivia's tummy.

    April 18 is also a special day on the Shady Dell calendar, and I am marking the occasion in tomorrow's post on SDMM. It is a birthday celebration for a dear lady. I would greatly appreciate if you would come over sometime tomorrow and leave a b-day greeting for her.

    Thank you very much, dear friend JM!

    1. Thank you, Shady. We all miss her very much. Then when Nan died nine months later, it was just a sad year.
