Ice Skating at Center Ice

It felt so good to get back to ice skating! The last time I had been to Center Ice in Oaks, PA was 20 years ago with my summer camp. Back then I was terrified of ice skating because I thought I could get killed if I fell. Funny how 20 years changes things. :) I had a lot of fun and I can't wait to go back next week.

I ran into my baby cousin';s friend. And by baby, I mean almost 16 and in 10th grade.

Look at that spark and shine
that ice that lures and taunts
beginners and masters alike, no whines,
oh, that ice, ice, ice!

My skates are tied tightly,
the blade barely cuts the ice
as young girls twirl - beauty is sightly.
Oh, that ice, ice, ice.

I slowly begin as people whizz by,
balance kept, the ice guides--
holding on, will I eventually fly?
Oh, that ice, ice, ice!

New friends quickly made, a lot of cheer,
"that's okay - the ice is good for health;"
now I begin to fly without fear-
oh, that ice, ice, ice.

That ice, ice, ice!
I fly and dance across the ice.
Ice crystals fly around me
and dance on my Jays hat-
oh, that ice, ice, ice!

  1. Hi, Jessica Marie!

It's great to see you back out on the ice, an environment that clearly makes you come alive. Ice skating is a powerful metaphor. Twenty years ago you were terrified of it, fearing that you might get killed if you fell. In the years since then you have conquered your fear and have enjoyed yourself at a number of ice skating venues. If you fall, it's not the end of the world. You pick yourself up, brush yourself off, and try again. With practice, persistence and patience, you eventually fly without fear. You fly and dance.

Have a wonderful week, dear friend JM!

    1. Hi, Shady!

It feels so great to be doing it again. I hope to go back on Saturday. :)

That's true! I think I should make this into another poem. :)

Have a wonderful week as well, dear friend!
