Baffling Behavior

I can learn about guys’ behavior from many a book,
I can also learn from experience, painful as it sounds—
it usually makes sense, the confusion has me shook.

Yet there is one that seems like a mischievous rook,
when things end, the white flag raised, no texts found;
I can learn about guys’ behavior from many a book,

most I never hear from again, a month he took
before inboxing me, urgent messages pound—
it usually makes sense, the confusion has me shook.

No rhyme or reason like a babbling, rushing brook,
three times I fell in, his promises had me wound;
I can learn about guys’ behavior from many a book—

each time we vowed we’d treat each other better, look,
months of peace, then arguments turn molehills to mounds;
it usually makes sense the confusion has me shook,

the anger that seethes, the tears that well in my eye’s nook,
blocked for good, yet he comes crawling back, begging, astounding!
I can learn about guys’ behavior from many a book,
yet he baffles and angers me, the silence has him shook.

  1. Hi, Jessica Marie!

    This is an excellent poem! I assume that it is autobiographical and speaks to a problem that you are currently having with a guy friend. I am truly sorry for the hassles and the pain you are experiencing but, nevertheless, the words that flowed from your mind and heart, through your fingertips and onto the screen as you analyzed the situation, amounted to a very good piece of writing.

    I hope your week gets better and better, dear friend JM. See you soon!
