Ice Skating the Day Away at the Blue Cross River Rink

Yesterday before I went to Elfreth's Alley, I decided to go to Penn's Landing to try my luck at ice skating. Independence Blue Cross has an ice rink near the Delaware River and it was so beautiful. I tried to ice skate last year in Center City at the Rothman Ice Rink. I didn't so hot and since I was uninsured last year, I felt nervous. While the Rothman Ice Rink is still in Center City, Independence was cheaper, especially since I have insurance through them.

The River Rink was also much nicer. Once I had a go around, holding onto the ledge, I decided to give ice skating a try without holding on. Of course, I still stayed near the edge. I didn't do too badly; I only fell twice. I went around four times and had so much fun. I'm a bit sore today, but want to go again next week!

I've had a busy weekend. I will eventually post pictures from Elfreth's Alley's Deck the Alley, Friday night's Ugly Sweater Party and the Art Museum, and today's open house at Mill Grove. Busy, but so much fun.

  1. Hi, Jessica Marie!

First of all, why are you all bundled up? We are still running the air conditioner day and night down here! :)

Second, I well remember my efforts to ice skate when I was in my teens. My friends skated at a nearby rink and I wanted to be part of the group so I went along a few times. It didn't go well. I am tall, over 6 feet, and I have weak ankles. Skating was nothing but agony for me because I got terrible blisters that took days to heal. I also fell many times. It was just about the same thing with roller skating. I couldn't get the hang of it and I couldn't keep my balance. I'm happy to know you had lots of cold weather fun. Have a great week, dear friend JM!
