Arabic Sympathy Card

A family member of someone I know died last week. I decided to make him a sympathy card and asked my one friend to teach me what one would say to a grieving Muslim, how to extend sympathy. Apparently it depends on the region, but my friend gave me the phrase:

عطم الله أحدكم قفيركم، أنا لله و أنا النه

Pretty much it translates into "We all belong to God and return to Him." Someone on another site said I could have said it this way too: نَّا للهِ وَإِنَّـا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعونَ‎‎

The card was well received and the friend appreciated the gesture. I had fun making the card, just as I had fun making an Arabic birthday card. I have always found making cards in different languages and for other cultures to be fun. :)

  1. Impressive!

I've fallen off the edge of the planet Earth to a good many of my Russian and Chinese comrades, but when I'm feeling better they might hear something or another from me... I'm focusing more on my Japanese stuff with going down to DC this weekend and doing the Metro... @_@ whee~
