NaPoWriMo Day #2: Halloween Bird Adventures

It's day two of NaPoWriMo. The prompt today is:

Today, I challenge you to write a poem that takes the form of a family portrait. You could write, for example, a stanza for each member of your family. You could also find an actual snapshot of your family and write a poem about it, spending a little bit of time on each person in the picture. You don’t need to observe any particular form or meter. Happy writing!

I liked the lune form from yesterday and I wrote the following poem in lune form. Of course I am looking for a better title than "Halloween Bird Adventures." Thoughts?

He came here in 1991
an exchange student
from a suburb of Prague.

He was placed with Nan
through university years,
becoming part of the family.

Wherever he went, I followed;
watching Beavis and Butthead,
laughing at their endless stupidity.

We always had fun times--
Halloween dressing up,
like the bird I was;

around the room I flew,
in his arms
I soared above the clouds

and visited all foreign countries,
I loved listening
Russian, German, Slovak, Chinese, Arabic,

my wings were always welcomed,
along with smiles--
I didn't want to leave

even for trick-or-treating
and collecting candy,
but I stalked the night.

  1. Hi, dear Jessica Marie!

    Is that cute little you in those pictures? Thank you for sharing those flashbacks to your childhood and the poem you wrote about them. The only other title I could contribute would be "Taking Flight On Fright Night."

    Enjoy the rest of your weekend, dear friend Jessica Marie!

    1. Hi, dear friend Shady!

      Yes, that is little Jessica. :) The bird picture is from Halloween 1993, from when I was 4 years old. I was around three in the second one. Sometimes I like sharing baby pictures. :)

      I really like that title! Thanks, Shady! NaPoWriMo has been great so far - it's helping me think of material for my book!

      You too, Shady!
