I first heard J. Cole's Love Yourz on MTV U last Sunday and bought the song on iTunes yesterday. I was really listening to Love Yourz while I was taking a walk and it really touched me. This song speaks a lot of truth. While I do like the line "There's beauty in the struggle, ugly in the success," but the lines "always gon' be a bigger house somewhere, but feel me/ Long as the people love you dearly/ Always gon' be a whip that's better than the the one you got/ Always gon' be some clothes that's fresher than the ones you rock/But you ain't never gon' be happy till you love yours" because it's true. We should be grateful for who we are and what we have at each level of our lives.
Now this doesn't mean working hard to advance, but we should be thankful for our blessings. We should be grateful for our talents, and the people that help us along the way, the ones that help us get where we want to be. It's easy to be envious, but it's a lot harder to love your own life. While many not agree with decisions I made, they were mine and I love many decisions I've made over the years. I wouldn't be where I am today if I didn't have the experiences I have had (good and bad). I am thankful for the people in my life and the experiences I have had, and the help I've had along the way. Wow, this song is awesome.
