Thankful Thursday 10/15/2015

It has been another good week. My belly dancing pictures in the photography display has started a lot of conversation. In November 2010 and February 2011 my Arabic class and I went to Casablanca - no, not the town in Morocco, but a Moroccan restaurant in Warrington and we bellydanced. I took pictures for scrapbooking purposes. I guess I never did put them in the yearbook I was beginning to make... I never got around to scrapbooking many - I hung displayed some of those pictures. I displayed the pictures of Omar (male bellydancer), me bellydancing with Omar, and my one friend and other classmate dancing. I'm thankful for my stories. Here are the pictures from February 2011:

What are great picture for #tbt!

Val and Alicia.

On Sunday I went to Philadelphia to walk around. I like going to Philadelphia during the weekends to explore and exercise. I forgot my digital camera and instead of telling dad to turn around from the high speed station, I decided I would buy an Instax Mini polaroid camera when I arrived in Philly. I did and Urban Outfitters was having a sale - got it for 60% off. I will post a blog about that adventure tomorrow... but after the adventure through the Dream Garden and before the adventure in Old City, I stopped off at Cedars.

Cedars is a restaurant next to the Arabic bookshop I love to buy my Arabic books from. When I went in August, I saw the owners fixing up the restaurant and talked to them. Since it's re-opened, I decided to check it out. It was a quiet day on South Street I guess between all the things going on in the city and the games, I was the only one in the restaurant. The waiter, who introduced himself as Deos or something like that, and I chatted about the food, football, and traveling. He was actually really nice and he was somewhat talkative. I was in there for an hour and we chatted the whole time. The chicken kabob sandwich, rice, and iced mint tea were DELICIOUS! I ordered dessert and I was in the mood for dates. They were out of the date dish, so I asked for rice pudding and dates on the side if they had dates. They did have dates, so he brought out a date cookie with my rice pudding and Lebanese coffee. It was amazing. here it is:

When it came time for the check, Deos handed the check to me and he said, "Dessert is on me." I thanked him up and down and asked him if he wouldn't mind getting a selfie with me. He didn't mind at all. I am short and after struggling a bit for a good angle, he offered to take the picture. He was so nice about it. I'm actually shocked he agreed for a selfie.

I'm thankful for that nice little treat on Sunday and I'm thankful for his hospitality. The restaurant was really good and I will be going back again. I loved the food and atmosphere. I loved the Arabic music playing... but the whole staff was nice. I like friendly places. :)

Also, we went back on our words and brought in more caterpillars. Two are getting ready to go to chrysalis and one is still nom-nom-nomming away. Three are chrysalises outside. I'm thankful for the extended experiences of the caterpillars and grateful reminder of the beauty of the season.

What are you thankful for today?

  1. Hi, dear Jessica Marie! I'm very happy to learn that things are going well for you at work and that you are settling in, becoming more comfortable and making friends.

It was fun reading about your latest trip into the city. I love kabobs, mint tea, dates and rice pudding, so it's a good bet that I would have enjoyed dining at Cedars as much as you did.

More caterpillars? What happens at release time? Are you going to drive them down to Mexico in your car? :)

    1. Hi Shady,

I need to update this blog entry: the office is having a holiday party on December 4th and one of my co-workers is taking me since I don't drive. She sent me an e-mail offering to take me. Thankful for that too. :)

You would have! I still can't get over the cute waiter who treated me to dessert. Some of my old friends asked if I got his number -I didn't ask and I'm glad he didn't ask for mine yet because I rather go back a few times. I loved their food, so it's not twisting my arm. :)

I know! I'm shocked! Well, I wouldn't fly to Mexico... I'm planning a trip to Canada in December actually! I have three personal days I have to use before I lose them at the end of the year.

    1. Eh, it depends. on the situation. If it's a new situation - I'm quiet. If I am comfortable with people, I can be talkative... but it depends on my mood.

    2. Yep, those damn moods indeed! If the mood is right and I'm comfortable with people, I can't shut up. If I'm not comfortable or not in the mood, people used to think I was a mute!
