Remembering Ben E. King

I have very sad news to report tonight - R & B singer, best known for Stand By Me, Ben E. King died yesterday at the age of 76. It is being reported that King died from natural causes. Ben E. King started his career in the late 1950's with the band, The Drifters. While he was with The Drifters, they had many hits that included There Goes My Baby and Save The Last Dance For Me. Ben E. King went solo in the early 1960's and in 1961, Stand By Me cracked the top five on the Billboard Charts in the US.

Of course, many people remember Stand By Me by the Rob Reiner that was based on a Stephen King novella called "The Body." Rob Reiner derives the title of his film from Ben E. King's song, which plays over the end credits. I remember hearing the song from this movie, but Ben E. King was just like the Motown acts come dances, especially Father/Daughter dances. I remember dancing to this song with dad and at weddings too. I love this song.

It's a shame about Ben E. King and he will be missed dearly. However, he has lived a good life and accomplished so much. Rest easy and peacefully, Ben E. King.

  1. It is a nice song. I saw that movie only once, I think.

    1. I love oldies and Motown. They're just good songs that can put me in a better mood. I updated my iPod today. I think I'm done for a while. :)

I think I've only seen bits and pieces. Can't say I've seen the whole thing. I might have to rent it. My parents LOVE the movie.
