NaPoWriMo Day #22

Prompt: And now for (as always, optional) prompt! Today is Earth Day, so I would like to challenge you to write a “pastoral” poem. Traditionally, pastoral poems involved various shepherdesses and shepherds talking about love and fields, but yours can really just be a poem that engages with nature. One great way of going about this is simply to take a look outside your window, or take a walk around a local park. What’s happening in the yard and the trees? What’s blooming and what’s taking flight?

Happy writing!

Spring Is In the Air

As the cherry trees begin to bloom,
and bees flit about, in skies they zoom--
clear skies quickly turn to gray;
hurricane force winds cause delays
with uprooting of willows and trees.
Yet, in April's winds and showers
comes Lily of the Valleys and May's bridal flowers,
with monarchs, swallowtails, and bees--
I look up to the sky and in the sea
of blue and white clouds that flee,
in gratitude and prayer, I fall to my knees.
