Thankful Thursday 1/15/2015

Yesterday I went back to WCU to visit the career center. It was very helpful - the career counselor gave me some wonderful ideas for my first post-college career as well as some resume tips. I have two different ones now: one that is for administrative entry level positions and one that is for writing entry level positions. At the end, I'll post the differences. :) I also told her I've been thinking about either teaching or working abroad once I have the experiences and money (a lot of teaching places pay for teachers to move, but I'm not sure about workers in general). WCU just became a member of My World Abroad, a website for students and alumni interested in working, traveling or studying abroad. I was just added this morning and saw this really neat job: Publications Graphic Designer in Dubai. It's a Mid-level position, so obviously I can't apply, but it would be awesome to have this possibility with my language skills once I have the experience under my belt. The meeting yesterday made me feel hopeful and it made me see that the English degree is a starter for a lot of different jobs. I'm glad I visited and I think yesterday was successful because I've been in the "real world" for a year, tried different things, and have learned from the successes and failures of last year. It's much different when you're still a college student. I guess I'm thankful for those life experiences last year,

After I finished at the career lab, I went to visit my old co-workers from Software Application Training. I will admit that I was very nervous about going into West Chester yesterday, but it was nice seeing everyone from SAT. Going through the side door of Anderson Hall felt like old times because that's the way I'd go to work when I was finishing classes. Brittany was hanging some things and when she saw me, she exclaimed that she was happy to see me. She then brought me in to see Darlene, which Darlene was talking to Ben. We all talked for a good 5-10 minutes, then I went to see Treiva. She was in on a phone conversation, but while she was on hold, she stepped out of the office and we talked for a good 10 minutes or so. Then I went back to talk to Darlene. It was just nice seeing everyone and it hasn't felt like too much has changed. Besides Anderson Hall getting new flooring, not much has changed. Just seeing everyone cheered me up - yesterday was a good day and I'm thankful for things. I feel much more hopeful now. Here are my different resumes. The first one is the administrative one (which I will send to the office jobs I apply for) and the second one is the writing (which I'll send to writing jobs):
