Fall Scents

Prompt from Blog City on

What smells do you connect with autumn? Write a story, a poem or blog to your hearts content about what fall aroma tickles your fancy.

Gather around the fireplace that burns bright,
let the smoke christen the room for life anew!
- has the cinnamon potpourri added to the light,
gather around the fireplace that burns bright?
Memories of pumpkin cupcakes led to great plight:
but in such pumpkin sadness, clove led to something true--
Gather around the fireplace that burns bright,
let the smoke christen the room for life anew?

The leaves burst in yellows and reds.
Halloween joys and candy scent the air.
I walk the streets and see the signs that led,
the leaves burst in yellows and reds--
"I hope he likes me," runs through my head;
wafting in a vanilla scent with Twiztid flare.
The leaves burst in yellows and reds,
Halloween joys and candy for Mono scent the air.

Two weeks until I see Twiztid and I meet them! I'm so excited, but a little nervous about meeting Mono. Also, I looked more into Marrakesh, they open at 5:30 and it's a whole ordeal like Casablanca Moroccan Restaurant in Warrington. I'll go when I have more time and my crown is on. I'll just pick up a quick dinner around the TLA... most likely at Jon's. :)

  1. I associate the smell of black tea with fall, the smell of white tea with winter, the smell of green tea with summer, the smell of herbals/tisane with spring. Fall since I tend to patronise the Lincoln Room most then, winter due to the colour of snow, spring due to the florals, and summer due to my Chinese sojourn.

NaNoWriMo is in the late fall, early winter, so black and white teas get associated with the practice of writing 50,000 words of a story.
Right now, I am 19000some words into Verst After Verst, currently caught up in research regarding Siberia, India, Persia, and the GULag. (As far as places go.) Then, life behind bars, socialism/Communism, journeying, and Islam as regarding states of mind. Then, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Solzhenitsyn, and R. Strauss are the inspiration. (Getting through the Solzhy is my current stage.)

I hope you have a nice day Jessica ^_^ /just rambling to friends instead of parsing that 650 page tome

    1. That's a good point! I forgot about teas and the Lincoln Room! Yesterday I had a dentist appointment and it was just a busy day, that by the time I wrote this for I was exhausted and couldn't think of everything. I might have to write another poem - thank you!

I think this year I'm going to participate in NaNoWriMo on They have a counter and a group for it. Regardless of the job outcome, I want to try it and see how far I get. They have a Nanoprep group for October... I just asked if it was too late. Good luck with VAV!

Thank you, my day was pretty good so far. Tomorrow is dad's birthday! Have a great day as well!

  2. Hmm...I don't think I associate any smell with fall now! Back in Oregon, fall was when BLM conducted controlled burns but it's now been years since I've smelled any forest fires, controlled or wild.

    1. Hmm, I never knew they did controlled forest fires! It's been freezing here, so we lit our fire early. But I love the Halloween scents around here as well as the apple and cinnamon. :)
