Summer Mix 2014

Hi readers,

I was going through old entries last night and every summer since 2011, I have had summer mix entries. However, these "mixes" were over a few days. I don't want to drag it out, so I'm going to do a "mix" in one blog entry. I remember burning CDs all the time up until last year. I used to love making mixes for myself and others. I should see if I still have that capability on my Toshiba Windows 8 laptop. Enjoy these 14 songs for "Summer Mix 2014"!

1. The Killers- Read My Mind

This song is #1 for Summer Mix 2014 because this song is motivating for me to move. It's been a motivating song for me since 2011, but it really speaks to me this year as I wait for employment in Detroit and plan on moving by September regardless (of course, if I get a job or two I will move before then. It's looking good too!). Lyrics that stand out:

I never really gave up on
Breakin' out of this two-star town
I got the green light
I got a little fight
I'm gonna turn this thing around

Can you read my mind?

2. Insane Clown Posse- The Great Milenko

Last Monday, I finally received The Great Milenko album from Kevin and I've been listening to it a lot. I really like "The Great Milenko" because I love the imagery and just how it's performed. It's a fun song.

3. Twiztid- All I Ever Wanted

This song really speaks to me because I can relate to it. I can relate to the anger of things passing us by or finally getting what you want and the surprise behind it. Also, it seems like people sell us short. Favorite lyrics:

All I Ever Wanted
All I ever wanted was
I don't wanna lie
All I ever wanted was
A shot that I never got
All I ever needed
No one ever cared
All I ever wanted was
Someone take me outta here

4. Twiztid- Mutant X

Like "The Great Milenko," this is just a song I like for the style and imagery. This video is from a fan, but I really like part of the live version on Born Twiztid: Beyond the Freak Show (fast forward to 1:15 and it goes to 1:30). If you want to watch the whole thing, it's a parody of VH1's Behind the Music. It's funny. Hmmm... this is the 2nd time I heard Monoxide say that he would let a fan stay with him if needed. You know... I'm very tempted to ask.

5. KMFDM- Today

I've always loved this song because nothing lasts forever: if today is a bad day, tomorrow can be a good one... don't let your bad day ruin your tomorrow. Today happened, it'll never come back again and you should focus on the here and now.

6. Alice In Chains- No Excuses

I've been a big fan of this song since 2003. That's my stance of life: no excuses. If you want to do something, do it!

Favorite lyrics:
You my friend
I will defend
And if we change, well I
Love you anyway

7. Nirvana- Come As You Are

8. Korn- Got the Life

I really love this song. I used to have this on my iPod, I should upload it again (I didn't get a chance to upload it after mom bought my laptop on August 4, 2013). I love this song because as long as you have faith (whether spiritual or non-spiritual) life can be good. Got the Life lyrics

9. Orgy- Fiction (Dreams In Digital)

10. Marilyn Manson- Coma White

11. Eagle Eye Cherry- Save Tonight

12. White Stripes- Seven Nation Army

13. Foo Fighters- Times Like These

This is another song I need to redownload. I love it and always have.

I am a new day rising
I'm a brand new sky
to hang the stars upon tonight
I am a little divided
do I stay or run away
and leave it all behind?

14. Go, You Chicken Fat, Go

Apparently this was a song that JFK adopted for the fitness council back in the 1960s. I first heard it for a fitness commercial and I thought it sounded funny. It's catchy, even if it's a little offensive.

I lied: here's a bonus. I heard this song today and this is another song I need to re-download because it's catchy:

Sugar Ray- Every Morning

  1. I've heard two of these songs: "Read My Mind" because I have the album it's on and "Seven Nation Army" because Marcus Collins, a singer from over here, sang a cover of it.

    1. Nice. :) Well, you know why that part of "Read My Mind" sticks out. :D I went some Detroit musicians on this list with ICP, Twiztid and White Stripes.

    1. Awww. I listen to pretty much everything from every era... but these songs came to mind. When I used to burn CDs... I would have 40 mixes by the time summer ended. Yeah... expensive habit. :p
