Happy Memorial Day!

I wrote this article 8 years ago, but it's still pertinent: The Real Origins of Memorial Day.

Today we need your trumpet playing,
the beat that leads veterans down the aisle;
I need to feel your spirit through wind swaying.
Today we need your trumpet playing
to remind us all of sacrifice and slaying,
to remind us all of lost lovers beguiled.
Today we need your trumpet playing,
the beat that leads veterans down the aisle.

  1. Definitely still relevant. I also think that we should use events like Memorial Day and Remembrance Day as incentives to prevent wars. It's an insult to everyone who died defending freedom and expecting peace that wars still continue.

    1. I think some of them are justified though, like the Revolution or the Civil War to an extent. I could agree with the intentions of the Iraq War to get a despot out of power, but now I don't... now it's becoming a holy war and I hate those. This is when I start to see religion as a problem; I'm spiritual and believe in a higher power, but I see fanatics of any faith that are so narrow minded and will kill people who don't agree with them. I find that wrong.
