Devil's Den, Philadelphia

Devil's Den is located on 1148 S. 11th Street in Philadelphia, PA. Opening in 2008, this relatively new restaurant has a lively atmosphere and great music. The food is awesome and relatively inexpensive, which is shocking for Philadelphia (I'm acustomed to paying premium on South Street). A Jack and coke was $4.50, the absinthe was $9.50 and I had a sandwich for $8. The sandwich was a Buffalo chicken sandwich and as I usually don't like spice, the consistancy was perfect and not too hot. I met a friendly older gentleman at the bar who treated me to a margarita and we talked for a bit; he pointed me how to get to the church where I was going for Grid Alive on 22nd and Spruce Sts. Even the bartender was friendly. Overall, great atmosphere and I'd reccommend.

  2. Check later. :) I'll write it after I'm done my 2nd 10 page paper. I'm at page 7 now.

  3. Now that I've read the update, it sound like a nice place. :) Is a Buffalo chicken sandwich a sandwich from the city of Buffalo or is it chicken in barbecue sauce in a sandwich? (Like Buffalo wings.)

    1. It's spicy chicken in a barbecue sauce. It's essentially like the wings.

  4. Philly's Chinatown is between North 9th and 11th Streets! (And between Arch Street and the Vine Street Expressway)

The prices you brag about as extremely cheap sound far more expensive than I'd spend for just a sandwich and a beverage, but I suppose the atmosphere contributed greatly to the cost, didn't it.
(I'm used to spending $25 at a restaurant for enough to feed a family of four - that was my experience at the Wong Wong Chinese Restaurant)

I hope your Finals are going well, Jessica!

    1. Mostly alcohol. Alcohol raises the bill by quite a bit, but Devil's Den was cheaper than a lot of places on South Street.

I'm just so glad my papers are done. Now I'm waiting on grades -- I'm nervous about my Shakespeare class.

    2. Hmm.

Congratulations on finishing that hard work! I'll check my exact grades by July. For now I am polishing my minimal Chinese comprehension...
