Juju Hair Salon

Which one do you like the best?

A.
Located around the corner from Red Hook and across the street from Infinite, JuJu is an all organic hair salon. "Can't wait, can't wait, I'm going to chop it," I think to myself as I walk through the doors. The debate has been raging in my head since yesterday; should I get only an inch off, or should I get more so there would be no more layers, which the girl at Hair Cuttery botched in January. Maybe I would let the hair stylist surprise me. As I stand at the door, I decide that I will let the hair stylist surprise me. What could be the harm?

Riiiiiiiiing, the little bell softly whispers my greetings and the receptionist looks up. "How may I help you?"

"I have an 11am appointment. My name is Jessica Cavaliere." I am front and center now, I feel like the spotlight is on me. I look at my watch, I am fifteen minutes early. Quickly and almost violently, I hear the pages of the datebook being leafed through like something was missing. A brief moment of paranoia swept over me; maybe they forgot to put me in? But, that fear was quickly assuaged--"Ah, Jessica. Yes, you have an 11 o'clock appointment with Janka. Since you're new, please fill this out," and I am handed a clipboard with a sheet. It reminds me of a doctor's office.

I take my seat on a comfortable recliner. I notice a woman sitting on the couch next to me reading a children's book from the bin located next to me...

B.
"So, I see you are trying to get your hair healthy again," Janka says. She must have read my survey that I filled out when I entered JuJu.

I take my seat on a comfortable recliner and begin, My name is Jessica. I live in King of Prussia and I was born on July 4, 1989. THREE GOALS I'D LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH FOR TODAY appears in my peripheral and I pause for a moment. Well, I bleached my hair blonde last summer and it's damaged, so I want to get my hair healthy again, I scribble away. Summer is also coming up and I want to be cool for the hot summer ahead, I scribble again. Hmm… the last goal… hmm. I guess it wouldn't hurt to learn about how to properly take care of my hair, the final quick scribble.

"Janka is good. My daughter is getting her hair cut by her now," the woman, who took up the whole couch reading a child's book from the bin reserved for donations to Philadelphia school libraries, says. She is a nice lady and chatty (just like me).

"This is my first time at Juju. I'm not from around here." I say.

"You'll love it here, it's a nice place and they have awesome service. Where are you from?"

"King of Prussia. I read it got really high reviews online, so I decided to try it. I'm a travel writer, so I figured I'd review it."

"That's really cool! Where are you traveling today? The city?"

"South Street. I'm going to write a book about South Street. Then I'm going to the art museum."

I personally like B better, but is it confusing? If it is, how can I make it un-confusing?

  1. My initial reaction is to like your first one but I'm not at my standard speed of thought. (And I just got into a nasty spat with my sister, but that's okay, no assuaging necessary - it's kind of normal xD;;; this is it before I collapse upstairs - a little paranoid it hasn't properly sent)

  2. I guess I'll play around with either one. It was such a productive day at work today.
